chinadotcom Acquires a Majority Stake in OpusOne Technologies
Investment will increase chinadotcom's high margin, recurrent revenue streams through an expanded IP portfolio targeting Mainland China
chinadotcom corporation (NASDAQ:
CHINA; Website: www.corp.china.com), the leading integrated Internet company in Asia, today
announced the acquisition of a majority stake in OpusOne Technologies International Inc.
(OpusOne), a leading developer of the OpusOne Power Suite of business management software
solutions for state enterprises and multi-national corporations in Greater China.
One of the leading products developed by OpusOne is OpusOne PowerHRP, a
Human Resources & Payroll Management software solution first introduced to the market in
January 1998. This proprietary software is localized for the Mainland China market with a
simplified Chinese interface and meets the various tax, statutory benefits and
administrative requirements of different Mainland China provinces as well as Hong Kong. This
high flexibility combined with its cost-efficiency has helped OpusOne PowerHRP garner a
leading market share and brand recognition among numerous companies operating in Mainland
China. Installation has been completed in over 350 sites throughout Mainland China and Hong
Kong. Multi-national and Mainland China domestic customers include Swire Beverages,
Carrefour, ACNielsen, Shanghai GM, Shenzhen Airlines, Legend Computer, Inventec Micro
Electronics Shanghai, Shanghai Unicharm, SH SIIC South Pacific Hotel and Aventis Crop
Science Hangzhou as highlighted on OpusOne's website.
"We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of a significant stake
in OpusOne," said Peter Yip, Chief Executive Officer of chinadotcom
corporation. "The company has met all of our key investment requirements and we see
significant synergies and opportunities being created. As one of the leading developers of
business software solutions in Mainland China, OpusOne will allow us to further strengthen
our position and pursue our strategy of capitalizing on demands by international and local
enterprises in Mainland China looking for technology solutions to automate their business
processes in order to remain competitive following China's entry into the WTO."
This investment will complement and serve to further expand
chinadotcom's existing portfolio of proprietary software solutions catering
particularly for the Greater China market. In the fourth quarter last year,
chinadotcom's e-solution arm, e2e e-Business Solutions in partnership with Sun
Microsystems, established a Software Development Center (SDC) in Beijing to develop
web-based end-to-end solutions and other enterprise applications for SMEs and multi-national
corporations. In addition, chinadotcom continues to gain momentum with
expresso, a web-based customer relationship e-mail fulfillment, tracking, reporting and
data-mining application developed by MEZZO Marketing, and PowerHotel, an online application
catering to the hotel industry in Greater China.
Steve Collins, Chief Executive Officer of OpusOne Technologies
International Inc., said, "The investment by chinadotcom is a great
opportunity for us as it provides the platform to continue with our long term goal of
becoming one of the best software development and service companies in Greater China.
chinadotcom will add significant value with regards to strategic initiatives,
business development and provide us with growth opportunities throughout the Asia Pacific
region."
"We anticipate that this acquisition should accelerate our path to
operational profitability. In addition, the company's solid base of recurrent and high
margin revenues should improve the quality of our revenue streams as we expand our IP base,"
said Daniel Widdicombe, Chief Financial Officer of chinadotcom corporation.
"We will continue to actively pursue similar acquisition opportunities with the aim of
generating long-term value to our shareholders."
